Mass spectrometry imaging

We are working on the development of methods to have a molecular microscope in our toolbox in order to study on µm scale the interaction of microbes and animals.

Our mass-spectrometry lab in the Max Planck Institute now has the ability to visualize molecules across tissues and microbial communities in high resolution (both in space and with high mass accuracy).

Multi-modal or correlative imaging

One of our current interest is the visualization of the MALDI-MS data with other imaging data to gain a better understanding of the biology behind the very complex data. Therefore we use µCT datasets of our specimens and co-register for example:
-light microscopy + MALDI-MS data + Fluorescence imaging + RAMAN imaging
